Just started language lessons. Beginner Hungarian: Level One. Five students total, me included.
Some details about the participants:
One just completed a 6 week language intensive course in Budapest, two others are married to Hungarians with whom they can practice, the fourth is taking Hungarian because she’s curious how the language compares to the 10 other tongues she’s already mastered. They all have an edge, but I’m not deterred.
I have my work cut out for me, no question about it. Homework–of course. Slowly and surely, though–with effort and patience–I’ll crack this nut. Indeed, I will.
Wish me luck!

Hi! :)
I’m very happy to see that english speaking people are also intrested in learning Hungarian :). Congratulation to your decision and I wish you a lot of success in this nice but difficult adventure.
If you are also intrested in the Hungarian culture I recommend you to visit this site: http://www.best-things-in-hungary.com
Köszönöm Tibor, for the wishes and the link! So many interesting things on that website. Am surprised there’s not a section devoted to Hungarian spa culture–the many hot springs/thermal baths/therapeutic bathing complexes with treatments, etc. This, to me, is the very thing that is so special about Hungary, and why I can’t wait to go back. Actually, there are many reasons, but the spa culture there is a big one. Szia!
interesting word melody: “viszent-lata-shra”. if i heard it, i would have guessed it’s from an asian language, with the threefold repetitino of -a, kind of like “thank you” Laos, with threefold -ai: “Khawp jai lai lai”
and see what i just found: “thank you” in all languages: “http://users.elite.net/runner/jennifers/thankyou.htm
Babel Ahoi!
Oh my gosh, it’s really amazing to look at the list of the various ways that people say ‘thank-you’. Overwhelming, really, to think about how many languages there are, and how different they look and sound. Köszi Dorothee!
Your welcome Karyn! :)
thank you for your comment about spa culture. Definately this will be the next section what I’ll add to my site. Yes, that website is mine :). The only problem is that I don’t have too much time to work on it nowdays. And I should find someone how can correct my bad english before I publish anything… there was a lady earlier who helped me but today I don’t know wheter she can still do it.
BTW, if you need some help learning Hungarian just let me know, I’ll try to help you.
Szia és jó tanulást! :)
Tibor,
Just discovered the recipes on your site. Fantastic! I’ll definitely try some of them out. I love Hungarian food. My Hungarian friend who now lives in Canada made lunch for me right after my first Hungarian language class. She made chicken paprikash with nokedli, and a cooked purple cabbage dish. It was wonderful.
If you need some help with editing for your website, and if I have free time, I’d be happy to help you out.
And thank-you for your offer to help with my language lessons!
Karyn,
many thanks for your kind offer :)
I would be very happy to hear about your success with my recipes :)
I think you can see my email address if not pls let me know and I’ll send you.
Will do!
